Algeria Football– Tomorrow, during the match against Liberia at the Hocine Aït Ahmed stadium in Tizi Ouzou, the Algerian national team will wear its traditional green outfit. This clothing choice did not fail to arouse contrasting reactions, particularly on social networks, where some Internet users recalled the mixed memories associated with this color during the era of former coach Djamel Belmadi.
For many fans, the green jersey is seen as a symbol of bad luck. During the latter years of the Belmadi era, this outfit was associated with disappointing results, including early elimination from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and non-qualification for the 2022 World Cup, as well as elimination in the first round during the last CAN. These setbacks, experienced as trauma for Fennecs fans, marked a turning point in their perception of this emblematic color.
However, with the arrival of Vladimir Petkovic at the head of the selection, a new page seems to be turning. The latter wishes to break this superstition and give the green jersey the place it deserves in the history of Algerian football.
Despite these attempts to revive confidence, some supporters remain skeptical. On social media, many have expressed concern about this choice, while others are calling for people to move beyond these superstitions and focus on the game.
This match against Liberia, although without any major challenge for qualifying for CAN 2025, could offer an ideal opportunity to reconcile the Fennecs with their historic outfit. A victory would be the best answer to put an end to the debates and restore the image of the green jersey.
Note that the players of the national team carried out their last training session this Saturday afternoon before their match scheduled against Liberia this Sunday, November 17, 2024 for the sixth and final day of the CAN 2025 qualifiers.
This training, which took place on one of the lawns of the national technical center of Sidi Moussa, was quite light and devoted to technical-tactical work.
All players took part in this session. The Greens then took the road to reach the town of Tizi-Ouzou, which will host tomorrow’s match.
