Under Brian Riemer, Christian Eriksen plays a Thorgan Hazard-like role
We couldn’t miss his recognizable style among so many. Not clothing (where was his white t-shirt?), but football. Midfielders who defend against opposing backs who lose the ball, Christian Eriksen who plays Thorgan Hazard by coming from his flank to reinforce the midfield in possession. It’s déjà vu among RSCA observers last season. We couldn’t help but think, seeing him dominate the offensive sector of his team, that Eriksen would have been a superb recruit for the RSCA.
Riemer also kept one of his other promises: to make Denmark play with great intensity. His players put Spain under pressure and didn’t give up. The coach often stretched both arms forward. He who shouted “press” so much in Anderlecht did not have to change his words. It’s said the same in Danish.
The DH visited Brian Riemer in Denmark: “I am experiencing the best therapy after Anderlecht”
In front, it played just too well. Even weakened, Spain could have led 0-3 after a quarter of an hour but had to wait for a blunder from Vestergaard to open the scoring via Oyarzabal. Denmark may have pushed and played without complexes to come back to the score, Ayose decided otherwise with a caviar from Olmo (58th). Isaksen shook the post (79th) before reducing the gap and bringing back some suspense (82nd) on an error by the Spanish defense. Insufficient, however, to make Riemer’s premiere a success.
His Denmark can still qualify for the quarter-finals of the Nations League. They only need a point in Serbia on Monday evening. They can even afford to lose. If the difference is not more than one goal.
