GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – We’ll start the new week on a warm note before a big change in the weather pattern.
- Partly cloudy and chilly for viewing Leonid meteor shower tonight
- Sunny and warm again Monday
- Showers Tuesday & Wednesday, then a big cooldown
Skies will remain partly cloudy tonight, with another round of chilly temperatures on the way. Lows will dip to the low 40s, with light WSW winds at 3-6 mph. Breaks in the clouds should provide us with fair viewing conditions for the peak of the Leonid meteor shower tonight. The best time for viewing will be closer to midnight, with up to 15 meteors per hour possible. Do your best to get away from light sources if you can, and make sure to bundle up if you plan on heading out!
Monday will be another beautiful, unseasonably warm day as high pressure remains positioned over the Southeast. Highs will climb into the low 70s across most of the region, with a pleasant SSE breeze at 4-8 mph. If this is your kind of weather, enjoy it while you can, because big changes are coming as the week goes on.
A slow-moving, but sharp cold front will slowly move east of the central United States on Tuesday. Ahead of it, clouds will take over our skies with spotty showers breaking out in the afternoon and evening. Southwesterly winds ahead of the front will keep temperatures mild in the upper 60s despite the cloudy skies. Shower activity is expected to be nuisance-variety, but may make for some wet spots on the roads through the Wednesday morning commute.
Leftover showers on Wednesday morning will give way to returning sunshine in the afternoon, with one more day of mild highs in the upper 60s before a very big change on Thursday.
Mostly sunny skies will take over behind the departing cold front, but it will usher in a sharply cooler air mass for the second half of the week. Highs on Thursday wo;; only manage to reach the upper 40s across western North Carolina, with mid 50s and breezy conditions expected upstate. The arriving colder air could even produce a few high-elevation snow showers in the mountains going into Thursday evening.
Mostly sunny skies will continue through the weekend with the chillier weather digging in for a bit. Highs will remain in the upper 40s to middle and upper 50s through Sunday, with lows in the 30s each night. Be ready to break out the winter clothes!
