The project was designed to offer a alternative to the car for those who do not have a station near their home. The project of Transport at Own Site in Western (TSPO) has just moved a little closer to its end: the prefect of Bas-Rhin, the Grand-Est region and the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg inaugurated on Tuesday November 12 the extension on 5 new kilometers (dedicated to coach traffic) on the route between Wasselonne and Strasbourg, and a new stop in the Hautepierre district, in Strasbourg.

A new mode of transport between Wolfisheim and Strasbourg

After the commissioning of the section between Oberschaeffolsheim and Wolfisheim in 2022, it is the turn of the section between Wolfisheim and Strasbourg-Hautepierre to be inaugurated, two years later. Four bus lines (205, 209, 230, 240) will serve a new station installed in Hautepierre. During peak hours (between 7 and 9 a.m. and between 4 and 7 p.m.), buses will pass every 2 minutes 30commit the three actors who co-financed the project (State, the Grand-Est region and the Strasbourg Eurometropolis).

The new “urban stop station” was named “Paul Eluard” after the nearby line D tram station. It is located in the Hautepierre district, close to the University Hospital Center. “It's the swimming pool, it's the Zénith, it's the theater, we need, sometimes without going through the city center of Strasbourg, to be able to connect to this area quickly, but we also need to reach quickly the city center'”, explains Jeanne Barseghian, the mayor of Strasbourg. The journey between Wasselonne and the “Paul Eluard” stop is estimated at one thirty minutes.

Next objective: an extension to the Les Halles district

The project was designed to relieve congestion saturated road network and “increasing” traffic approaching the Strasbourg Eurometropolis, according to the joint press release, which specifies that 90% of exchanges with the Eurometropolis are today by car. “We know that it is a connection which does not have rail infrastructure, so express coaches make perfect sense there.“, adds Jeanne Barseghian.

“It is of course a further step towards better air quality and the climate”she concludes. The next stage of the TSPO will take place in 2027estimated date of the inauguration of its extension towards an “exchange hub”, in the Halles district, near the city center.
