Tradition. “Kaktus”, the new glass ball from Meisenthal for a Christmas on the balcony

Every year, a new contemporary Christmas bauble is made by the glass blowers of the International Center for Glass (Ciav) in Meisenthal. A work that the public can witness live. “I had fun imagining the scenario of a Christmas of the future in our regions. Barbecue turkey and Santa’s sleigh pulled by camels! » confides a smiling Mark Braun. And added, more seriously: “I am campaigning for a positive attitude and the commitment of everyone to face this challenge with resilience. » The designer thus imagined that the Christmas tree would one day be replaced by a Mexican cactus. Its fruit, the prickly pear, inspired him to create the “Kaktus” ball, without making a carbon copy of it. Its line: round shapes and rough edges that evoke the small seeds and thorns of the fig.

A new reception system

To better manage the flow of visitors, a new system is in place. “We installed a modular reception pavilion, made of wood from the region, to welcome the public,” explains Yann Grienenberger, the director of Ciav. No more queues that become virtual. Once the entry ticket has been purchased, the visitor can wander around the site while waiting for a text message to alert them of their imminent access to the store. It will also be possible for the first time to eat at midday, at the Halle Verrière bistro. The Jardin de la liberté welcomes the work of François Delamarre, Stimulus an interactive sound and light. Without forgetting the glass museum and the Hall of Lights, a digital show, to be discovered from November 22.
