Wout Weghorst still has difficulty with the choices made by coach Francesco Farioli, as the striker honestly admits after the 2-2 draw against FC Twente. The Ajax player finds it difficult to get used to playing one match and putting the next match on the bench, although he respects the coach’s choice.

“How do I deal with the fact that I play one match and not the other? That is difficult,” Weghorst laughs in front of the camera ESPN. “It’s something new. Ultimately, it takes some getting used to at first, that’s for sure.”

“I have struggled throughout my career to become the first, permanent striker somewhere. That is no different here. But there is a certain philosophy here,” the striker continues. He was in the starting line-up against FC Twente after being a substitute against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

“In all honesty: it is a philosophy that works. The team is profitable and everyone is involved in the process. Only I also have my philosophy and of course I would like to play every match.”

“I find it damn difficult to mentally put it aside if I don’t play a match. Ultimately, it’s about the team’s interests. Of course, if I don’t play it doesn’t mean I’m not happy for the team. For example, Brobbey played a fantastic match against Maccabi, I see that too,” said Weghorst.

So far, Weghorst has played 434 minutes spread over eleven matches for Ajax. In that match, the attack leader scored four times and provided an assist.

Brobbey already received more minutes from Farioli. The 22-year-old striker has already played almost 800 minutes this season. In seventeen appearances he scored two goals and five assists.
