It will be a temporary joy, because this evening it is mathematical that one of Inter and Napoli will score points and take the solitary top spot, but that doesn't mean Atalanta fans should stop their joy in seeing that their team is at the top of the table of Serie A. One thing is certain: in Bergamo you no longer suffer from dizziness, because in the Gasperini era you have become very used to being high up. The 2-1 victory over Udinese placed Dea at the top of the league until tonight. Thanks to a streak of 6 consecutive successes which brought the people of Bergamo back to believing in the championship dream. On the other hand, as Gasp himself often loves to repeat, “the fans must dream”. This year, however, they have more than one reason to do so, especially if we compare this record with the one achieved on 5 September 2022, when after 5 days Atalanta was looking down on everyone with 13 points. The 2-0 victory obtained on the Monza pitch was decisive with goals from Rasmus Højlund and (in his own goal) Marlon, after a cross shot from Lookman.

In post-war football it had happened on two occasions that Atalanta were first in the table, in both cases after two matchdays: in 1964 they were the only team to win the first two matches, while in 1949 they put themselves ahead of everyone by difference networks. He closed those two seasons in 10th and 8th place respectively, while the 2022/23 season ended in 5th.
