For the second time in a row in the Premier League, the fourth in all competitions, Manchester City lost during a trip to Brighton (2-1).
Nothing is going well at Manchester City! After three defeats in a row in all competitions, Pep Guardiola's players hoped to get back on track this Saturday on the Brighton pitch. However, the Skyblues had confirmation that they were no longer the serene team that dominated the Premier League at the start of the season. With the pressure of the result, the Manchester City players immediately put their foot on the ball but Savinho did not manage to get the better of Bart Verbruggen a quarter of an hour into the game. In the process, Erling Haaland missed the target on a free kick from Phil Foden. A failure of the “cyborg” which was not followed by a second. Indeed, in the 23rd minute, the Norwegian striker did not miss the opportunity to open the scoring in two stages after failing again against the Seagulls goalkeeper. A goal which could have been followed by a second if the Dutch goalkeeper had not intervened again. Brighton's reaction only came in the 35th minute, when Danny Welbeck saw his shot deflected at the last minute and controversially by Josko Gvardiol. As soon as the restart, the Seagulls raised their voice.
Brighton had the last word
They thus pushed Ederson to finally make his first intervention of the match on an angry header from Jack Hinshelwood. Georginio Rutter then missed the target shortly after the hour mark. However, it quickly became apparent that Manchester City were not at their best. Kaoru Mitoma failed on Ederson before João Pedro saw the target slip away. Pep Guardiola brought in some experienced fresh blood for the final 20 minutes with Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva but the trend was clear. As the last ten minutes approached, João Pedro ended up being right. On a confused action, the Seagulls striker was able to take his chance and deceive the vigilance of the Skyblues goalkeeper. Barely five minutes later, the Brighton players completely turned the game around. This time, it was Matthew O'Riley who enhanced an offering from João Pedro to allow his team to go ahead on the scoreboard. The nine minutes of added time saw the Citizens push like never before to snatch a point from the draw but the success was not there. At the end of the suspense, Brighton achieved a resounding success against the reigning English champion (2-1) and temporarily moved into the Top 4 of the ranking. Manchester City, beaten for the second time in a row in the league, could see Liverpool fly away if they succeed against Aston Villa this Saturday evening.
