Too weak for an hour and reduced to ten after the goal of hope, Nice managed to come back two goals against Twente (2-2), this Thursday, during the 4th day of the Europa League. An almost miraculous result of parity for the Riviera club which showed enormous mentality.
Jérémie Boga revived Nice.
If the Ligue 1 teams more or less do the job in the Champions League, this is not necessarily the case for Nice in the Europa League. Clearly below for an hour, the Gym still held on to a draw against Twente (2-2), this Thursday, during the 4th day.
A score of parity with a taste of victory for the Aiglons who are provisionally in a poor 31st position, synonymous with elimination halfway through this first phase.
Nice walk
Little to its advantage since the start of the tournament, Nice had doubts from the start with the Dutch opening the score following a magnificent collective action concluded by Rots (0-1, 8th). A terrible first quarter of an hour for the Aiglons, who were taking a Football lesson from a very playful Twente team who were comfortable with the ball. Quite the opposite of Gym, unable to string three passes together in the opposing camp and who reacted timidly to a half-hearted header from Moukoko.
As the minutes passed, the Niçois slowly but timidly moved up the slope. The locals touched the ball a lot more but they didn't make good use of it. Lack of combinations, hazardous center, Franck Haise's protégés stammered in their football and did not worry the visitors. We had to get closer to the break to witness the OGCN's first real clear chance with a point-blank shot from Diop pushed away with his foot by Tyton.
The Nice entrants have caused damage
Returning from the locker room, Bulka was decisive against Lammers. The Polish goalkeeper was happy to see Vlap, who had barely come on, hit the post with a long shot, but was not flawless a few minutes later on a strike from Lammers who deceived him at the near post (0-2, 60th ). A slap in the face for Franck Haise who reacted by making three changes. A winning move since a few seconds later, Boga restarted his team with a magnificent shot curling into the top corner (1-2, 66th).
Unfortunately for Nice, all these efforts were almost reduced to nothing with the direct expulsion of Diop in stride for a small sole on Regeer at the halfway line. A very harsh decision from the referee which ruined the end of the match for Nice. But it took more to bring them down and on an outburst from Clauss, Cho threw himself at the far post to equalize with a flat foot in front of the empty goal (2-2, 88th). A match that both teams ended at ten with the expulsion of Van Rooij. A draw, yes, but a good draw for the Gym.
Match rating: 7/10
A two-part match. A first hour clearly dominated by Twente, two classes above Nice. A last half hour to the advantage of the Gym, which was paradoxically better in numerical inferiority. A lively encounter with opportunities and suspense.
The goals:
– Shifted to the right, Van Rooij crosses into the area for Regeer. With his back to goal, the Twente captain puts in a back touch for Rots, who places a pure cross shot to deceive Bulka on his right (0-1, 8th).
– On the left, Salah Eddine hits and finds Lammers in the area. The Dutch striker mystifies Ndayishimiye with a devastating little bridge to shoot Bulka at the near post. Despite an opposition hand, the Polish goalkeeper is beaten (0-2, 60th).
– On his first ball, Guessand overflows to the right and sees his cross being pushed back by the defense. At reception, Diop, who shifts Boga. In a good position, the Moroccan attacking midfielder places a magnificent curling shot into the opposite corner (1-2, 66th).
– Found by Bouanani on the right, Clauss overflows and crosses hard at the far post. At the reception, Cho shoots Tyton with a flat foot at close range in front of a wide open cage (2-2, 88th).
Player RATINGS
Maxifoot has awarded a commented score (out of 10) to each player.
Man of the match: Jérémie Boga (7/10)
The Ivorian winger spent half an hour on the pitch but his mere presence changed everything. Scorer on a magnificent curling shot, the former Rennais revived his team, transformed after his entry. With each ball he took, he panicked his opponents who never knew how to defend him.
