‘Literally nothing!?’: Did Kamala Harris fail to outperform Joe Biden’s 2020 US election performance country-wise? CNN anchor says…
CNN anchor Jake Tapper’s reaction went viral on Wednesday morning (local US time), after he was shown a graphic purportedly claiming that Vice President Kamala Harris had failed to outperform President Biden’s 2020 results in even a single state. Tapper, visibly shocked, reacted with disbelief when CNN’s Chief National Correspondent John King presented the data during a live broadcast.

“Literally nothing?” Tapper asked, as a map meant to highlight states where Harris secured at least 3% more votes than Biden was instead gone completely grey.

In response, King confirmed the surprising news: “Literally nothing.”

Tapper’s stunned reaction—”Holy smokes!”—quickly struck a cord with social media users, with the clip being shared widely on X among other online platforms, where it amassed over 5 million views (so far).

The graphic, initially set to show states where Harris outperformed Biden by at least 3%, revealed no such states, leaving Tapper and viewers baffled. “Literally not one county?” Tapper pressed yet again, still in disbelief.

King later adjusted the graphic to display county-level data, showing that Harris had outperformed Biden in just 58 counties out of the nearly 4,600 counties and townships across the country.

“So, in counties, in 58 counties,” King clarified. “We just showed Donald Trump was over a thousand counties of the 4,600 counties and townships across America.”

Further, King explained that while there might be a few more counties where Harris could have outperformed Biden in the West Coast states as votes continued to be counted, the map showed a stark contrast in battleground areas.

“In one county in battleground Pennsylvania, she’s outperforming President Biden by 3% or more,” King observed.

The broadcast came just hours before Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 race, as he overturned his losses from 2020 in key battleground swing states Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
