After the feminist march against violence against women organized in Paris from the Gare du Nord to the Place de la Bastille, around a hundred Femen activists demonstrated this Sunday in front of the Louvre pyramid, in the 1st arrondissement of the capital. Participants in the rally brandished veils and smoke bombs.
“Woman, life, freedom“, “Stop war on women” (“Stop the war on women“), “A woman’s body is not a battlefield” (“A woman's body is not a battlefield“)… The activists chanted and wrote several messages on signs as well as their bodies.
The independent journalist Clément Lanot reports the presence of the singer Lio, to perform Anthem of the Women's Liberation Movement (MLF).
Following an intervention by the police, the demonstrators were able to leave freely in small groups, after covering their chests and folding their signs.
“Let’s lift the veil on violence against women around the world“, we can read in a publication by Femen France on X. The group says it supports “all women oppressed by theocracies, wars and dictatorships“, and explains that he wants “embody a living symbol of global feminism against patriarchal violence, oppression of women and the rise of authoritarianism around the world“.
“Protesters stand in solidarity with oppressed women around the world, from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Ukraine, Palestine, Israel and beyond“, also declares the collective. Femen France specifies that the participants are veiled in black like a “symbol of mourning and the erasure of women“. “ERemoving the veil is not just a symbolic gesture: it is a conscious act of reclamation — a declaration to the world that we refuse to be silenced, that we will not be erased, and that we will never stop fight for our freedom and that of our sisters“, adds the group.
