SPAIN – A week after the terrible bad weather which hit Spain, search operations for victims continue. On Monday, November 4, Spanish emergency services began to intervene in the underground parking lot of the Bonaire shopping center, located in the town of Aldaia, in the western suburbs of Valencia. In the images of rescue workers, rivers of waste, cars, and a devastated building as you can see in our video at the top of the article.

This parking lot was flooded last Tuesday due to the torrential rains which fell on the city while several hundred people were there. According to El Plural, the authorities believe that many of them went down to the parking lot to flee in their cars, raising fears of a significant number of victims.

The 5,800-seat building was submerged in 200 million liters of water according to authorities. The pumping work allowed rescue teams to begin responding to the scene on Monday. For the moment, no casualties have been reported from the first fifty submerged vehicles which were able to be inspected.

Currently, the death toll from the floods which hit Spain last week stands at 217 deaths. 7,500 soldiers were deployed in the disaster areas, i.e. “ largest deployment of armed forces ever carried out in Spain in peacetime » according to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
