The Cantal archives have completed the digitization and posting online of the registers of the Control of notarial and private documents, for all the offices of the department, except one, that of Vic-sur-Cère which will be processed during the process. 'year.

Last year, in February 2024, the Cantal portal began this long work on the Control of acts with the posting online of 737 directories of the offices of Chaudes-Aigues, Mauriac, Maurs, Montsalvy, Murat and Saint-Flour.

These registers which preceded those of the Registration are assets for all ancestor researchers looking for information on the period before 1789. Established in 1693, the control of deeds is a procedure aimed at authenticating an act by affixing a note carried out by the control offices, dependent on the royal administration of Estates.

It initially applies to all notarial acts. Notaries have a registration period of 15 days to report to the inspection office closest to their office. In 1706, the control of acts was extended to private acts. The entries reported in the control registers indicate the date of presentation of the act, its nature, as well as an analysis of the act.

Another advantage of Cantal is that while the registers could only be consulted using the deed control search tool, they are now available for simple querying using the new engine. The search is carried out by office in the right part of the engine, with refinement of sorting by period, year or rating, while the results are displayed in the central part either in table form, or in the more classic form of tree or arborescence.
