10th day of Ligue 1 at the Pierre Mauroy stadium
Lille – Olympics: 1-1
Goals: David (17th) for Lille; Fofana (91st) for OL
Clearly dominated in the first half, OL reacted after the break by showing themselves much more conquering and managing to equalize in added time thanks to a goal from Fofana (1-1).
In front of their home crowd, Lille made the start to the match that we expected from Bruno Genesio’s men. Much more conquering than OL, LOSC created the best chances and they needed a good Lucas Perri and above all a lot of success to hold on during the first quarter of an hour. But an error from Maitland-Niles would weigh down OL, the English defender not pressing his back pass enough, which benefited David who removed Perri before scoring in the empty goal (17th, 1-0). The first half ended with this rather flattering score for Lyon, clearly dominated and who could have conceded more goals.
After the break, however, the match was different. Lacazette’s teammates showed a more conquering face and the domination was totally Lyon. The opportunities multiplied by Lacazette and Maitland-Niles. And the former Arsenal defender thought he would make up for his mistake by scoring, but after several minutes of hesitation, the goal was finally refused for offside after intervention by the VAR. An action which would cut the legs of the Lyonnais, less dominant at the end of the match… until the 90th minute and this splendid overflow from Maitland-Niles (him again) whose center found Fofana, who left no chance for Chevalier up close (91st, 1-1). A deserved equalizer given the second half. Each team will have finally had their half-time and it is therefore logical that Lille and OL parted in a draw.
