“This is not going to be his best day”: organizer files a complaint after spectator throws a cup of beer at Eli Iserbyt

During the Koppenbergcross, an old problem in cyclo-cross resurfaced: a beer thrower. This time Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen – Bingoal) had to deal with it. In the third round, a spectator threw a pint of beer at the Belgian champion. The police drew up a report afterwards.

Immediately after the incident, the speaker called for keeping it sporty. And the police did not stop there either. The spectator was soon grabbed by the wrists by two plainclothes officers and escorted towards the exit.

“It’s very simple. This is crappy and marginal,” Jurgen Mettepenningen, sports director of Iserbyt, was not kind to the action of the man in question. “Such people are better off staying at home. This has no place in cyclo-cross, cyclo-cross is a beautiful sport. I also think the people who respond behind their keyboard at home are stupid. Supporter for someone, but not against someone.”

PV for Assault and battery

Pauwels Sauces – Bingoal and Golazo will file a complaint with the police together. “This is not going to be his best day,” said Christoph Impens on behalf of Golazo. “We immediately rewound the images in the control room and sent them to our event manager downstairs. He immediately walked outside and identified the beer thrower and led him to the police. This doesn’t belong on a cross.”

Afterwards, the police drew up a report for assault and battery against Eli Iserbyt. This will be treated with the highest priority. The public prosecutor’s office can propose an amicable settlement, but the beer thrower may also have to appear in court. The incident will therefore not remain without consequences for the man in question.
