Every day, AlloCiné recommends a film to (re)watch on . Tonight: Malik Bentalha pays tribute to the adventurers of his youth.

In 2022, Malik Bentalha moved to the other side of the camera by directing Jack Mimoun and the Secrets of Val Verde. A funny and thrilling adventure comedy, carried by actors who are not at their first attempt in terms of humor.

Co-directed by Ludovic Colbeau-Justin (The Lion), this film tells the story of Jack Mimoun, an adventurer who lived alone on the hostile island of Val Verde. Since his return two years ago, Jack has recounted his experience in a program watched by thousands of viewers.

But one day, he crosses paths with Aurélie Diaz, a mysterious woman who convinces him to return to the island to search for a treasure, and not just any treasure, since it is the legendary Pirate Sword. Buzzard. Accompanied by his two sidekicks, Bruno Quézac and Jean-Marc Bastos, Jack returns to brave the dangers of Val Verde Island.

In the casting, we find Malik Bentalhawho works in front of and behind the camera, Jérôme Commandeur, François Damiens, Joséphine Japy, and even Benoît Magimel.

“Jack Mimoun is a declaration of love to 80s cinema”

In Jack Mimoun and the secrets of Val Verde, Malik Bentalha plays the adventurers… of TV. A nod to his idols Indiana Jones, Allan Quatermain, Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park saga… heroes who, like him, were born in the 80s.

Speaking to our colleagues at TF1, the actor and director notably confided: “We went to great lengths to write to pay homage to adventure films […] it’s a declaration of love to this cinema of the 80s”.

But they are not the only adventurers who have inspired Malik Bentalha. He also drew inspiration from Mike Horn and Bear Grylls: “And I added my touch to the slightly clumsy side.” Car Jack Mimoun and the secrets of Val Verde is both an adventure film and a true comedy.

A precisely balanced mix of genres which should delight young and old, as desired by the comedian, actor and now director: “I said to myself: If one day I have the opportunity to go behind the camera, I would also like to offer a trip and make the youngest and the oldest dream a little too.” This is done!

Tonight on TF1 at 9:10 p.m.
