«I am a victim. Why have I been with transsexual sex workers? For pleasure and solitude”

Piero Marrazzo comes to Domenica In to tell his story in a long interview from Mara Venier. The former politician protagonist of one of the most well-known scandals in Italian history shares his reflections on the past and prospects for the future. Here’s what “Zia” Mara revealed in the studio.

The interview with Piero Marrazzo

This is Piero Marrazzo’s first outing to talk about his book “History without heroes”, dedicated to his brother who passed away a month earlier, which tells the story of the man behind the news.

Mara wants to immediately underline how Piero is a victim.

“I was also a victim of fake news – says Marrazzo -, of the pollution that sometimes originates from the web. You think there was a rumor that I had been arrested, but how can a victim be arrested? According to them I would have been destroyed by addictions, but those who knew me know that this was not the issue. Even deaths have been linked to me. Here, today, I am allowed to speak more calmly.”

«At 20 I was shy – the story continues -, I believed things that I don’t believe today. For example, not everyone should be trusted. It’s the other side of living things with the heart.”

Then we return to the book, in which Piero Marrazzo told everything with extreme sincerity.

«We started from the falsehoods that were said. But taking responsibility is important. Who was I supposed to do it with? Cwith my ex-wife Roberta and my daughters. At the time I should have put myself in front of the tsunami that was coming, but I didn’t.”

And now, with this book, he wants to reveal the whole truth.

«In these 15 years everyone could have searched for the truth – he continues -, but they didn’t. In the book I wanted to indulge in one thing: to tell how I experienced the division between the public man (who did what he had to do) and the private man. The blackmail I suffered then didn’t succeed at the time, but then President Berlusconi called me and said: “Look, a video has arrived.” This made me realize that everything was coming to an end. From there I felt the need to talk, so the book starts from there. I owed it to everyone and to the institutions I hadn’t done anything illegal, but sometimes politics requires taking responsibilitybecause controversies are bad for politics in general. Then I hadn’t reported those people, and it hadn’t been right. I underline that in 5 years I have never had any warnings for corruption and extortion, and this gives a sense of what I have done in my work.”

He then continues to recall the events of that time.

«Io I have been a client of transsexual women sex workers, this is the topic. Why was I? It’s a pleasure which is the result of your personal sensations.” And he underlines another element, «pleasure and loneliness».

The day he was filmed during the intimate encounter, no one, in theory, knew he would go there, but from that moment everything changed.

«I felt like a “case” and not a person for 15 years – he explains -. But when you fall it’s not over: that day a journey began for me.”

And his daughters?

«They didn’t give me any discounts – he explains -, but they asked themselves: why, after these events, does our father no longer have the right to be a father? They were bullied, but they knew how to defend themselves.”

Now, with this book, Marrazzo feels he has “gotten back on his feet”.
