“Where was the VAR? Juve doesn’t need this to win”

Lazio’s sporting director harshly criticizes VAR’s actions on . “But what were they doing in Lissone? These gentlemen must be stopped, they should take two months’ rest.”

Douglas Luizhim again. This time it becomes a stone of scandal not because it has caused damage to the Juventus with clumsy interventions but for a couple of episodes which led the sporting director of Lazio, Fabianito explode on TV. The most sensational occurs in the 83rd minute, a few minutes before Gila’s own goal. “Punch a Patric but the VAR does not intervene. He can’t see and yet the images are there”. But this is not the only casus belli that leads the Capitoline manager to raise the tone of the conversation with his interlocutors on Sky, there is also another one judged to be equally serious and not detected either by the race director or by the collaborators in the cabin direction. “Douglas himself intervenes with his hammer foot on Rovella and nothing there too… however, he does it on Romagnoli’s intervention when the referee had instead let the game play”.

Fabiani really can’t explain how something like this was possible and focuses attention on what he defines as a “lack of uniformity of judgement”. It’s a broader discussion, regardless of what happened to his team in Turin. And for this reason he raises the bar: “If this is the VAR then it should be abolished, this year it is causing damage. Here there is a violent episode, there is a punch. Why is nothing done? In the VAR room, unlike the referee on the pitch, they have time to evaluate the episodes, but what do they evaluate? Juve doesn’t need these episodes to win the match.”

From the study they try to direct the reasoning on the issue of VAR on call, Fabiani’s reply is decisive: “There would only be confusion upon confusion, with the risk that the matches would last two, even three hours… But in Lissone, when Douglas Luiz punched Patric, what were they doing? If you go there you have to be concentrated for 90 minutes. If I I make a mistake in a purchasing campaign, they’ll kick me out. These gentlemen must be stopped, they should take two months’ rest.” The Biancoceleste sporting director ends his speech with bitterness for that act of violent conduct which would have deserved a warning to the monitor and a sanction commensurate with what was done.
