Due to significant flooding caused by bad weather, no trains are running this Thursday, October 18 on the Saint-Étienne- line. The A47 motorway is also flooded in the Givors sector

While the Rhône and the are both placed on orange rain-flood alert and on red flood alert this Thursday, October 17, the SNCF announced that no TER trains are running on the line linking Lyon and Saint-Étienne.

The cause: significant flooding on the line, which makes train movement impossible.

On X, the SNCF informed users in the morning that coaches had been ordered to take care of travelers. Finally, given the extent of the bad weather, no substitution by coach could be put in place during the day.

The resumption of traffic on the line is not planned “for several days”, SNCF has already announced. In fact, the rails were completely swallowed up by water and “safety checks will be necessary on the installations once the flood is over”.

The A47 flooded

Due to these floods, the Rhône prefecture also decided to close the A47 motorway this Thursday morning. The motorway was closed at interchange no. 1 “Givors Ouest” in the Saint-Etienne/Lyon direction and at Ternay, in the Lyon/Saint-Etienne direction.

The prefecture also reports that the departmental roads D488, D502, D103 and D342 are impassable. The authorities remind you that under no circumstances should you go on foot or by car on a submerged path or near a watercourse.
