Created in 2003, the Malaria Consortium is one of the main organisations non-profit organization specializing in the prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases among vulnerable populations.

The vacant position

Malaria Consortium recruit un state project manager to join our team at Kebbi, and in Nigeria.

The State Project Manager will be responsible for the overall management, coordination and harmonization of the Nigerian component of this multi-country, multi-donor project. Lead project implementation activities ensuring consistency with the overall performance framework of the multi-country program and in line with the core values ​​of the Malaria Consortium. He/she will lead the project team in the States and liaise closely with the Zonal Project Manager, keeping the West Africa Program Director informed.

The State Project Manager (SPM) will provide leadership for the management of State personnel on the project. He/she will be responsible for the delivery and achievement of project objectives and will ensure that reports are completed in a timely manner and shared with relevant stakeholders and stored to enable effective decision-making. He/she will lead the development and periodic review of systems relevant to the project in accordance with the organization’s policies.

The SPM will travel to field offices and represent the country office, nationally and internationally, as appropriate.

Key working relationships:

The SPM will be a member of the Country Management Team (CMT) and will report to the Zonal Project Manager. The SPM will directly supervise a team of staff including State Project Managers and contribute to the performance goals and evaluations of these staff. The SPM will work with the Country Technical Coordinator, Country Finance Officer and other project managers on similar projects to achieve project objectives.

Representation:

  • Identify strategic opportunities at national and subnational levels to share project experiences and learnings to promote project objectives
  • Represent MC on the SMC Technical Working Group within the NMEP
  • Work with the West Africa Program Director and Country Program Manager to ensure that the Malaria Consortium is purposefully represented on national platforms.
  • Work with the West Africa Program Director and Country Program Manager to keep relevant national stakeholders informed of project progress.

Person specifications:

Qualifications and experience:

Essential

  • 7 to 10 years of post-graduate studies in medicine or any other field related to public health
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in project management, with a preference for healthcare project management
  • Significant experience in operational and supply chain management in a developing country
  • Strong management skills, demonstrated ability to supervise the performance of others to achieve high quality and on-time project results
  • Ability to work in English (spoken and written)
  • Experience in project, budget and financial management

Desirable

  • Previous experience in coordinating or managing mass drug administration or pharmaceutical supply chain management in Northern Nigeria.

Professional skills and abilities:

Essential

  • Demonstrated understanding of procurement procedures
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate with people from different backgrounds and professions
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to make complex information understandable for different audiences
  • Flexible and able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment by applying knowledge and experience to resolve unforeseen and unexpected problems
  • Strong representation skills
  • Experience in developing donor-funded projects, including strong writing skills.
