The Clermontois had mentioned the risk of suffering the Toulouse awakening. They were right. It is rare to see the French champions lose three times in a row. Apart from the first ten minutes where ASM showed great defensive resistance where they could even have scored a try on a breakthrough from Alex Newsome (8th), the rest was a long and difficult evening.
Too imprecise on their throws into touch (4 balls lost by Massa) and much too undisciplined (11 penalties at the break, 16 in total), Christophe’s men suffered enormously. Toulouse having already made off at the break (20-0).

And then… There was the Antoine Dupont show, author of a hat-trick in a quarter of an hour (49th, 55th and 58th). The cup was full. The Clermontois had the merit of not completely giving up by scoring two tries by Tixeront (52nd) and Fouyssac (72nd). But this was insufficient to reduce the big difference in level between the two teams.
For ASM, it is a second severe defeat in a row (48-14) after the bad outing in Perpignan. SIX tries conceded, that’s bound to hurt your head.

We wondered what state of form Antoine Dupont was in after an “off” summer following his Olympic title. But to ask the question is to offend his immense and incomparable talent. Entering in the 45th minute, the scrum half scored a hat-trick in less than a quarter of an hour (49th, 55th and 58th). Adding even more superlatives to a legend already in progress. Like the number of consecutive penalties conceded by Clermontois in 19 minutes during the first half. From the 17th to the 36th minute, Christophe Urios’ men were completely subjected to the incessant Toulouse waves. And inevitably, they made a mistake. Cristian Ojovan even logically received a yellow card following the accumulation of fouls (31st).
