The Minister of Communication, René Emmanuel Sadi, issued an official statement to end speculation regarding the state of health of President Paul Biya. Describing these rumors as “fantasies” and “pure imagination”, the government spokesperson affirmed that the head of state “is doing well” and that he “will join Cameroon in the coming days”.

According to the official statement, the president Biya granted himself a brief private stay in Europe after his active participation in the China-Africa summit. During this period, he remained “attentive to the evolution of national life”.

The Civil Office of the Presidency also reacted, assuring that the president is in “excellent state of health” and that he is currently working in Geneva, where he has been since his return from Beijing.

These statements follow a wave of persistent rumors about the health of the Head of State, fueled by certain political parties and media, notably the Democratic Union of Cameroon (UDC) and the ABS News channel, known to be a tool of propaganda of separatists in the United States.

Faced with this situation, several senior government officials reacted strongly. Jacques Fame Ndongo, minister of higher education and communications secretary of the ruling party, denounced the allegations as “devoid of any basis.” For his part, Grégoire Owona, Minister of Labor and Social Security, called for sanctions against the “imposters” behind these rumors.

Will the government’s delayed and coordinated intervention put an end to rumors about the president’s health Biyain a context where Cameroon, a strategic country in Central Africa, is led by a 91-year-old man?
