Gad Elmaleh takes over the famous Chez Michou cabaret

The iconic Parisian cabaret Chez Michou has found a buyer: actor and comedian Gad Elmaleh.

Facing financial difficulties, the establishment, located in Montmartre and specializing in transformist shows, was placed in liquidation this summer. It had been closed since June 2024 and around twenty employees had been laid off.

Name change

This Tuesday, October 8, the courts ruled on the takeover of the club and chose Gad Elmaleh, according to a judgment consulted by AFP. Chez Michou should become a place of “comedy and humor, while keeping the soul of the place” and should also change its name.

Michou, who created the cabaret, died in 2020. “We would have been unfortunate if the place became something other than a cabaret,” said Catherine Catty-Jacquart, Michou’s niece. “It will no longer be called ‘Chez Michou ‘, but Gad is going to make it a very beautiful place. It’s a very good thing to turn the page, taking a turn.” She also said that the cabaret is “in good hands, as Michou would have liked.”
