Next clap for Salzburg and Blaswich
After his nomination for the German national team, goalkeeper Janis Blaswich suffered another bitter defeat with Red Bull Salzburg within a few days. At champions Sturm Graz, coach Pepijn Lijnders’ team suffered a 0:5 (0:2) defeat in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday. On Tuesday, Salzburg lost 4-0 at home to Stade Brest from France in the Champions League, and lost 3-0 at Sparta Prague at the start of the premier class.

In Graz, Salzburg suffered their worst defeat in the Bundesliga since a 7-0 defeat against Rapid Vienna in 2008. “Where there is no luck, there is bad luck,” said the club’s statement about the game. Mika Biereth scored a hat-trick for the league leaders (30th/50th/62nd). “It wasn’t good enough in every facet of the game,” said offensive player Mads Bidstrup: “A lot went wrong. Good thing we now have two weeks to analyze all of this.”

On Thursday, national coach Julian Nagelsmann nominated Blaswich as the third goalkeeper alongside Alexander Nübel and Oliver Baumann for the upcoming Nations League games following Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury. When Biereth made it 0-2, the ball bounced off the post from behind to Blaswich’s arm and then over the line. (sid)
