France has imposed an entry ban on an already deported son of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, who was killed in 2011. France’s Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said the judiciary had confirmed the legality of this decision, which was made in the interests of national security.

In 2023, on the anniversary of his father’s death, Omar bin Laden welcomed statements on social networks that indicated a glorification of terrorism. The prefect then issued an exit order and ordered the now 43-year-old to leave the country. The entry ban, which has now been confirmed by the court, ensures that he cannot return to France for any reason, said the Interior Minister.

Bin Laden’s son had been legally resident in France since 2018 and lived with his British wife in Normandy. The broadcaster BFMTV reported that he was most recently involved in painting there. Omar bin Laden took legal action against his expulsion, but left France himself in 2023 and settled in Qatar.

The son emphasized to the authorities that he had distanced himself from the terrorist organization al-Qaeda, founded and led by his father, many years ago. He is one of the former terrorist leader’s numerous children.
