A few days after achieving the feat of beating Real Madrid in the Champions League (1-0), Lille continued with the reception of Toulouse on behalf of the 7th day of Ligue 1. The opportunity for the Northerners to find Clement Turpin.

While Paulo Fonseca’s protégés were trailing on Louis II’s pitch, an uncontrolled tackle by Takumi Minamimo on André Santos was not punished by Clément Turpin in the final minutes of the match. But the VAR could still advise the main referee to look at the images in order to form a more precise opinion of the action. Ultimately it won’t be the case.

A decision which will, obviously, trigger a lot of reactions on social networks. “For me, there is a penalty, declared Benjamin Nivet, consultant and former professional player. I watched the replays and for me, there is 100% penalty. There is no doubt. We see him leaving, he’s late and he takes everything away, it’s an uncontrolled tackle,” said the former Troyes player. “Personally, I whistle at him. “There is an incredible and blatant penalty which is not whistled. That Turpin is not even called for this action… Our arms are falling. […] There is a fault at the top and a fault at the bottom” judged Stéphane Guy for his part on RMC in After Foot. Oddly, LOSC was not so sure. “I looked at the situation and it is difficult to analyze. It’s difficult to call a penalty and I have to accept the referee’s decision,” Paulo Fonseca confided after the match. “When I watch the action, I don’t know if there is a penalty 100%, I don’t I don’t have all the angles…” added president Olivier Létang. Lille had finally finished 4th in Ligue 1, two points behind Stade Brestois and direct access to the group stage of the Champions League.
