Emmanuel Macron will convene a Defense Council devoted to Lebanon this Tuesday evening
Emmanuel Macron is meeting on Tuesday evening, at 7:30 p.m., a Defense and National Security Council dedicated to Lebanon, said government spokesperson Maud Brégeon on Tuesday, who recalled the “diplomatic solution” advocated by France, moreover ” ready” to evacuate its nationals if necessary.
Some 23,000 French or Franco-Lebanese are established in Lebanon. A French Navy vessel set sail on Monday from the south-east of France to preposition itself off the coast of Lebanon as a “precaution”, in the event of a need to evacuate French nationals, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
“On the question of nationals, I can tell you that the embassy and the consular authorities are ready, as are our armed forces,” declared Ms. Brégeon during the report of the Council of Ministers.
While Israel informed the United States on Monday of its intention to carry out “limited” ground operations targeting Hezbollah in Lebanon, according to the American State Department, Ms. Brégeon recalled “France’s firm opposition to any incursion land of Israel” in the land of Cedar.
