the first regional multi-service company in the Kingdom enters into service this Tuesday – Telquel.ma

October 1, 2024 marks a crucial step in the modernization of public services in Morocco with the entry into operation of the country’s first regional multiservice company (SRM) in the Casablanca-Settat region.

This initiative, the result of a reform, aims to transform the management of drinking water, electricity and liquid sanitation on a regional scale.

SRM Casablanca-Settat, pioneer of this new model, extends its operations over a vast territory encompassing the prefectures of Casablanca and Mohammedia, as well as seven surrounding provinces. This deployment is part of a broader national plan, announced by Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit, providing for the staggered launch of SRM in three other regions by mid-November 2024.

The implementation of these SRMs will be carried out in three distinct phases. The first phase concerns the creation of SRMs in the pilot regions of Oriental, Casablanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi and Souss-Massa. The second phase will involve the regions of Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, Fès-Meknes, Rabat-Salé-Kénitra and Béni Mellal-Khénifra. The third phase concerns the regions of Drâa-Tafilalet, Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.

This reform, framed by law 83-21 adopted in January 2023, aims to create an SRM in each of the 12 regions of Morocco.

These entities, incorporated as public limited companies, will have the mandate not only to manage essential public services, but also to have the possibility of diversifying their activities into related areas.

The initial financing of each SRM will be distributed between the State (25%), local authorities or their groups (50%) and ONEE (25%).
