Thierry Suquet, the prefect of Vaucluse, has just issued an order to withdraw the approval issued to the Orange Football club (OFC) for its affiliation with the French Football Federation (FFF).
Multiplication of violence
“Since the 2022-2023 sports season and repeatedly, numerous meetings involving the Orange football club, its supporters, or even its supervisors, have led to acts of violence against opposing teams or officials, explain the services of the Vaucluse prefecture to justify this decision. This violence, physical or verbal, took place both during matches and outside matches, whether or not linked to the matches. »
The Grand Vaucluse District powerless
Noting that the disciplinary power exercised by the Grand Vaucluse District and the sanctions taken “did not make it possible to stem these acts of violence, generating disturbances to public order and endangering practitioners, particularly minors”, the prefecture considers that “the seriousness of these acts of violence and their recurrence presents proven risks for the health and physical or moral safety of practitioners and creates disturbances to public order and public morality. »
It is therefore for all of these breaches noted and contrary to the ethics of sport and in application of article R.121-5 of the Sports Code, that the approval issued to the OFC Club was withdrawn. .
“We solemnly ask the prefecture to reconsider this decision. »

OFC leaders in incomprehension
Obviously on the side of the Orange football club, the leaders of the sports structure chaired by Abdelhak Tarik since last July display a profound incomprehension.
“This brutal closure, which seems disproportionate to us, will deprive 400 young people of the sporting activity essential to their physical and mental balance,” they regret in a press release published as part of a petition requesting the lifting of this sanction which has already received nearly 200 signatures 1 hour after its launch on chance.org. It will also destroy the efforts of our educators, volunteers and parents who have devoted themselves tirelessly to keeping our club alive and upholding the values of sport. »
“We solemnly ask the prefecture to reconsider this decision and call on all local stakeholders, elected officials, associations and citizens to support us in this ordeal. Together, we must find a solution so that our young people are not the victims of this decision,” demand OFC officials.
