Less than a week before the start of the Australian Open (January 12 to 26), Red Bull organized a small exhibition tournament on Monday evening at the Rod Laver Arena, won by Holger Rune.
The event gave rise to a funny exchange between Matteo Berrettini, in interview mode, and Casper Ruud who was warming up before facing Rune.
Caps: “Looks like you're going to face Holger (Rune)”
Ruud : “We’re best friends now… we trained together this week, it should be fun”
Caps: “He just told me he hated you.”
Ruud: (laughs) “I hope not!” »
Caps: “No, no, I’m joking, he didn’t tell me that”
If they lost each other during a very tense duel in the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros in 2022, Ruud and Rune have since buried the hatchet.
“With Holger Rune, we became friends again. He has matured, just like me. And then we leave this kind of thing behind us”Ruud explained after organizing exhibition matches with Rune in their home countries of Norway and Denmark during the offseason.
