ATP – Finals > Daniil Medvedev's proposal on the calendar: “I remember Rafael Nadal said it once. You end the season earlier and you put the ATP 250 tournaments after the Masters for the players who want to continue to play”

Particularly talkative during his visit to a press conference in Turin after his victory against Alex De Minaur this Tuesday, Daniil Medvedev revealed some proposals to lighten the schedule.

For the Russian, it would be necessary to focus the classification of the Race around the main tournaments, namely the Grand Slams and the Masters 1000, in particular to prevent the highest ranked players from registering for certain small tournaments to grab points in view of the Masters. This is also what happened recently at the tournaments in and Belgrade.

“I think there should be more, bigger, important tournaments that should be like, 'Okay, here are the tournaments where we define who's going to be in the top 10,' like the Masters 1000. If you play well in these tournaments, you will be there. The schedule should somehow revolve around these tournaments. For example, there should be no 250 tournaments after ‐Bercy where Casper (Ruud), Andrey (Rublev) and Alex (De Minaur) have to go and then withdraw or something like that. I remember Rafa saying it once. The season should end early, then you put all the ATP 250s after for the players who want to continue playing. If you're good enough, you finish the season in October, you play the Masters. It doesn't matter. The following tournaments do not count (for the Race ranking, editor's note). If you still think you need more points for the Australian Open or more matches, you do it afterwards. I think it's something to take into account. »
