Between November 4 and 7, 2024, 86 companies from the Île-de- region were able to present their activities during the European trade fair All4Pack Emballage , the show for all innovative and sustainable solutions for packaging.

In this context, the All4Pack Innovations Awards, prizes which reward the most remarkable innovations in the field of packaging and intralogistics, and of which a company from Seine-et-Marne is the winner out of equality: Novatec Industrybased in Mary-sur-Marne, in the far north of the department.

It is more particularly his papierthe Seal Eco Paper_Filterwhich challenged the jury. This paper heat sealable and breathable allows you to coat porous paper while avoiding the problems encountered with aqueous varnish, composed of 60% water, which passes through the paper when it is removed.

A reflection after the AGEC law

This innovation, patentedcomes from a reflection ofHelio Printfrom the Riccobono Imprimeurs group, based in Mary-sur-Marne, specializing in the printing of press magazines and advertisements. “This is our core business but the printing sector is in sharp decline. Two years ago, we asked ourselves the question of sources de diversification», explains Eric Carle, center director.

The anti-waste law for a circular economy (AGEC) boosts this reflection: we must abandon plasticwhich until now packaged magazines before sending them to subscribers. “Faced with plastic, paper wins. Plastic cannot be fully recycled. It's not a safe bet. »

An innovation set to be deployed

The company then works on the creation of iron-on paper packaging . To do this, she uses a very thin paper, of approximately 14 grams, and colles thermofusibles, called hot-melt, which set quickly after application thanks to hot melting and cooling in a few seconds. No more water bases packaging that requires additional heating to stick and therefore, denature the fiber.

The test is conclusive, the idea is patented and a start-up is born to market this innovation: Novatec.

Today the Seal Eco Paper_Filter is available in divers formats, supplied in flat, backed or sleeved reels, fits existing packaging machines.

Helio Print already uses it to pack magazines printed in Mary-sur-Marne. The result is the same as with plastic packaging: the paper is resistant, and protects correctly. All in responding to environmental issues.

The Novatec start-up is now developing and analyze the markets within its reach so that its technology can be used beyond the packaging of press magazines. “We are doing tests everywhere. We will try to go towards the dry cleaners, hospitalswho repackage washed textiles in plastic,” adds Eric Carle, who believes he can reach a multitude of markets with his iron-on and breathable paper.

Only difficulty today: market its packaging in the food sector . “It’s more complex and it must meet very specific standards. »

Furthermore, during the European All4Pack Emballage Paris exhibition, Novatec presented its paper in a packaging of a t-shirt.“This award will give us visibility to continue to develop,” concludes the director.
