David Haddad, director of Warner Bros. Discovery’s games unit, is leaving the company after 12 years in the role, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters on Thursday.
Haddad, chairman of Warner Bros. Games, will stay on for the next three months while his replacement is found, said JB Perrette, president of global broadcasting and games at the media giant.
“David has thoughtfully and deliberately chosen a time when our release schedule is lighter, which will help minimize disruption to our current projects and strategic plans and allow this team to smoothly prepare for their next title which will break records,” Perrette said in the memo.
In his role, Mr. Haddad oversaw the development and publication of numerous games and franchises, including “Hogwarts Legacy,” “Game of Thrones: Conquest” and “Golf Clash.”
Hogwarts Legacy topped sales charts in 2023 as players flocked to the Harry Potter universe, while hit fighting game Mortal Kombat 1 also topped the list. the 10 best-selling games that year, according to industry watcher Circana.
-The company’s big game in 2024, however, failed to meet the expectations of players and the company. “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” was designed as a live-service game, which consists of in-game purchases and regular content updates to keep players engaged.
After a lackluster release and poor sales, the studio behind the game announced that it would end updates to the title after the final season launches in January.
