In the wake of Donald Trump’s inauguration, the American artificial intelligence (AI) sector is booming. After the announcement of the Stargate project for 500 billion dollars, Google invested a large sum in Anthropic, the startup which operates the conversational agent Claude.
Google and Amazon bet on Anthropic
The Redmond firm is investing an additional $1 billion in the young company founded by OpenAI alumni, bringing its total funding to $2 billion. The two companies have also established a commercial agreement that covers the use of a series of online tools and services.
By increasing its stake in Anthropic, Google is positioning itself to further compete with other Silicon Valley giants in the highly competitive sector of generative AI.
For its part, Anthropic is starting to weigh heavily in the sector, because Google’s investment adds to a total of $8 billion injected by Amazon into the latter. Moreover, the e-commerce giant is based on the startup’s large language model to improve its Alexa voice assistant, according to specialist media.
The company seeks to distinguish itself from its competitors by emphasizing access to AI security.
