WhatsApp is getting a makeover: four new features to discover

WhatsApp wants to keep its billions of users around the world, and what better way than to increase the number of new features and additional features. Among these new features, the arrival of filters for video calls marks a change in the user experience. Already popular on platforms like Instagram or Snapchat, these filters now allow you to personalize photos and videos directly in WhatsApp.

Stand out from the crowd

« With more than 30 visual effects, you can change the background, apply fun or stylized filters, and transform your photos to better share your emotions », Explains a Meta spokesperson. This new feature should add a fun and personal touch to visual calls and messages, maintaining WhatsApp’s position as an essential tool for communicating beyond simple texts.

Another notable new feature: the creation of personalized stickers from selfies. With a simple click on the dedicated icon, users can transform their self-portraits into stickers to send in their conversations. Currently deployed on Android, this option will soon be available on iOS.

For fans of sticker packs, WhatsApp also makes sharing them easier: no more need to send images one by one. From now on, it is possible to send a complete pack in a single gesture, thus simplifying exchanges in groups or with loved ones.

Reactions to messages also become more intuitive. Where previously you had to long-press on a message to choose a reaction, now you just double-click to quickly access your favorite emojis. This improved interface is inspired by similar systems used by applications like Discord, while integrating a touch specific to WhatsApp: a drop-down menu allows you to select the most frequently used emojis, which contributes to the fluidity of interactions.

These new features are part of a series of regular improvements aimed at making WhatsApp more creative and user-friendly. Meta, the parent company of the application, has also announced its intention to offer even more tools in the coming months.

Those nostalgic for the WhatsApp of the early years, which hardly allowed them to go further than text message exchanges, will have to mourn the loss of historic messaging. It now dreams of itself as a fun communication platform.

By enriching its tools, the application clearly wants to remain the number one choice, even in an ultra-competitive market facing rivals like Telegram or iMessage. If you haven’t yet tested these new features, they are available now (or very soon, depending on your device). A good excuse to get back in touch with this friend who hasn’t responded in months…
