In a notable intervention during the broadcast Grand Jury on RFM, the coordinator of the “Y en a marre” movement, Aliou Sané, delivered a scathing analysis of Macky Sall’s governance, estimating that “the system is still there”, despite the change of regime. This declaration, widely repeated by the newspaper Lasemphasizes that the practices denounced under the previous government continue.

Aliou Sané criticized the amnesty law adopted in March 2024, which erases acts linked to demonstrations from 2021 to 2024. According to him, this law embodies injustice towards the victims of political violence. The newspaper Las recalls that 83 Senegalese lost their lives during these tragic events, and that “the sponsors must answer to justice”. For Aliou Sané, Macky Sall remains the main person responsible for the abuses observed, in particular the arbitrary detentions under his direct orders. He also accuses the judicial system of having been exploited. However, he notes that the current regime reproduces certain abuses, citing bans on demonstrations and abuse of power.

Aliou Sané insisted on the importance of profoundly reforming institutions, a failure which he attributes to Macky Sall. As pointed out Lasthe latter failed to meet the expectations of the Senegalese in terms of ethics and justice. For “Y en a marre”, the change must be structural, and not cosmetic, for Senegal to finally break with a deeply rooted system.
