Ford has just introduced the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, a version that celebrates American ingenuity and the Mustang’s record-breaking track performance.
A car born to challenge the limits
In 1962, a small team of ambitious engineers transformed a compact sedan (the Ford Falcon) into a revolutionary sports car: the Mustang. From its first race, it challenged the biggest European brands. It later made history by becoming the first car from an American manufacturer to lap the Nürburgring in less than 7 minutes.
Today, Ford is celebrating this epic milestone with the launch of the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, a tribute to the ingenuity and courage that have characterized the Mustang since 1964.
An avant-garde aeronautical engineer
The Mustang GTD Spirit of America not only honors the brand’s performance heritage, but also the daring spirit of pioneers like Craig Breedlove. This aeronautical engineer transformed a jet engine, purchased for $500, into a racing car, thus becoming the first man to exceed the barriers of 500 and 600 miles per hour (805 to 965 km/h) on land.
Craig Breedlove has inspired generations of American designers and engineers, including the team behind the Mustang GTD.
“The Mustang GTD embodies the pinnacle of Mustang performance. The Spirit of America celebrates the boldness that makes it possible,” said Jim Owens, Mustang GTD brand manager.
An inspired design full of symbolism
The Mustang GTD Spirit of America’s design reflects America’s national colors: Performance White bodywork adorned with Race Red and Lightning Blue racing stripes, reminiscent of Mustang’s iconic three-color vertical stripe from 1964. The stripes span the entire length of the car, also evoking the outfit worn by Breedlove during his records.
Aerodynamic elements, such as the front and rear diffusers and the spoiler, are made of exposed carbon fiber. The spoiler features red side plates and the letters “MUSTANG”.
A high-end and personalized interior
The interior of the Mustang GTD Spirit of America features leather seats with Dinamica accents, a Black Onyx color, and a gradient red central stripe. The contrast is enhanced by Victory Blue stitching.
The shift paddles and some dashboard elements are made of 3D printed titanium, highlighting the attention paid to small details.
Unprecedented performance
The Mustang GTD Spirit of America is part of the new 2025 generation of Mustang GTD, the most powerful model ever designed by Ford. With 815 horsepower, 664 lb-ft of torque and a top speed of 325 km/h, it redefines the performance standard for a street-legal Mustang.
