LaCie take advantage of CES 2025 of Las Vegas to unveil its first Thunderbolt 5 compatible SSD. LaCie Rugged SSD Pro5 promises Very (very) impressive read and write speeds of up to 6,700 and 5,300 MB/s. Finally, it benefits from a reinforced and still waterproof design. It will be available in January 2025.
Ever faster SSDs
LaCie celebrates the new year by equipping its flagship SSD with Thunderbolt 5. As a reminder, this new mount must be 4x faster than Thunderbolt / USB 4, with theoretical speeds included in 80 and 120 Gb/s (in boost mode). Enough to envisage transfer speeds reaching 10,000 to 15,000 MB/s!

Although compatible with said standard, the new LaCie Rugged SSD Pro5 is more measured, with speeds writing and reading capping, respectively, at “only” 6 700 and 5 000 Mo/s. However, very fast speeds, easily outperforming classic USB 3.2 Gen2x2 and even USB 4 external SSDs.
This performance makes the LaCie SSD more efficient than some internal SSDs and it will be entirely possible to work on large files, photos or videos directly from disk without fearing the slightest slowdown.
This LaCie Rugged SSD Pro5 resumes the same design than previous models, with a silicone protection covering the entire disc. Meeting the specifications of the IP68 indexthe SSD withstands immersion under water, dust, drops of up to 3 m and even the pressure of a two-ton vehicle.

The only physical distinction compared to LaCie’s habits concerns the choice of the blueagainst the usual black or orange color.
Price and availability
The LaCie Rugged SSD Pro5 will be marketed for 439 € in its version 2 To et 699 € in its version 4 To. Orders should begin in the coming weeks.

With this LaCie Rugged SSD Pro5the Seagate subsidiary offers an SSD very efficient and attractive. The standard Thunderbolt 5 gives it a phenomenal performance gain and offers the possibility of relying entirely on this external drive to work – even with very large video files.
