La France Insoumise, through the voice of Thierry Grossemy sharply criticized the PS deputies, including Christophe Proença, deputy of the 2e Lot constituency, not having voted for the motion of censure brought against the Government of François Bayrou.
This Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Christophe Proença in a press release addressed to the Editorial Staff of Actulot.fr and La Vie Quercynoise, announced his positioning.
In his speech, Christophe Proença defines himself as an “opposition deputy”, faithful to the commitments made with the NFP (New Popular Front) and determined to act in the interest of the French. The PS remains in opposition, assures Mr. Proença, adding that it “will never support this government”, ensuring that its role is to be “useful and pragmatic”, using parliamentary tools with discernment.
Statement of Christophe Proença deputy PS of the Lot
» I am committed to being an opposition MP, respectful of the agreements and expectations of the NFP; a deputy who is useful to the French. I do not support and will never support this government and the PS clearly remains in opposition.
However, I consider that the motion of censure is used in the major interest of the country. I voted for it in December, to prevent the forced passage of a budget that is deaf to the expectations expressed at the ballot box and deaf to the National Representation. This budget was unfair, the government had swept away all our amendments, even the most constructive and unanimous.
The former Prime Minister refused to discuss with the left, preferring to work with the RN.
I will therefore vote for censure again if the current government and if our expectations on pensions are not met.
I insist that being in constructive opposition means opposing the government in a thoughtful and responsible manner: Who would have preferred that we not fight to reopen the pensions project and obtain the guarantee that it is there a real vote in Parliament? Who would have accepted that we did not have the courage to negotiate to lift the elimination of 4,000 positions in National Education and the creation of 2,000 positions supporting students with disabilities? Who would have wanted us to stand still and not claim the 21 billion euros in additional tax revenue taken from very high incomes to finance public services?
I believe that all these advances are useful and concrete to improve people's lives. I don't do politics to talk. With my socialist colleagues, we went to achieve these advances with our convictions. We fought at a time when the French expected more than ever from their deputies to live up to their promises. This is why I made the decision not to censor the government.
-We now expect the Prime Minister to move from promises to action on the budget. I will be vigilant about it. We cannot under any circumstances plunge parliamentarianism into a form of unconscious opposition. The politics of the worst can lead to the worst policies. “
