Founded in 1995 and based in Espoo, Finland, we can happily say that Remedy has added certain cornerstones to the great edifice of video games. The first two Max Payne have put a big kick in the anthill of the third-person shooter, whileAlan Wake has built a solid reputation for its narrative strengths: a tangent in which the firm subsequently became fully involved with Quantum Break, Control and of course the acclaimed Alan Wake 2released in 2023 and which we really liked. Since then, the studio has been on a fairly explosive dynamic: it is actively working on the remake of Max Payne 1 et 2on Control 2a project Control baptized multiplayer Condor and even a certain Vanguardfree-to-play shooter under the aegis of Tencent. The company has its work cut out for it and makes no secret of wanting to achieve a very high reputation, similar to that of a certain Californian studio.
In the Behind The Voice podcast, Kyle Rowley, the director ofAlan Wake 2has made no secret of being largely inspired by Naughty Dog for years: in terms of narration, intensity, story, but also sometimes gameplay and atmosphere, the Californian firm is a model for Remedy . In fact, it goes even further than that: “I think we should aim to become the European version of Naughty Dog”Rowley declares openly.
Currently, the company is therefore working on redesigning the first two Max Paynenow entering full production. This project also has a much more nostalgic flavor as its publisher is none other than Rockstar, as in the early 2000s. The firm with the star R will take care of the publishing and marketing costs and as we can suspecting it, she has quite demanding expectations regarding the final quality of the remake. “We have a great relationship with Rockstar and our team measures up well to the very, very high expectations set jointly by Rockstar and Remedy”said Johannes Paloheimo, chief operating officer at Remedy, in November. The goal of the studio is simple: “design an excellent remake of Max Payne that is also a commercial success.” It remains to be seen whether, according to the Finns, the title planned for 2026 will allow them to establish themselves as a real “European Naughty Dog”.
