On the sidelines of the Ligue 2 match between Caen and Clermont, Friday January 3, 2025 at the Michel d'Ornano stadium, the members of the Malherbe Normandy Head have, on several occasions, wanted to pay tribute to the former coach of the first team, Nicolas Seube, sacked at the end of December 2024. Above all, they wanted to send a message to the owners of the club, and in particular to Kylian Mbappé.
Banners to convey several messages
They did not at all like the forced departure of the icon of the blue and red people, despite the current poor sporting results which pushed the Caennais to occupy a 16th place in the standings at the break. Before kick-off, they first unfurled a first banner: “Here, only work and loyalty make legends”.
Then quickly, after two minutes of play, they sang songs in praise of Nicolas Seube who spent 23 years at the club. Other banners arrived later: “Before wanting to shine internationally, respect local figures”, or even “MBappé, the SMC is not your toy”.
A protest with respect
The expression of this dissatisfaction was done with respect towards the new coach, Bruno Baltazar, recently appointed. When his name was announced by the stadium announcer, during the presentation of the teams, he was not booed. Just a few whistles.
« The fans are the heart of the clubnew coach Bruno Baltazar said at a press conference after the match. Their reaction is normal. Of course I would like to enter into a project with a different context. It is my responsibility to change the situation, bring back victories and make the supporters proud. It takes a lot of victories to change all that. »
