Helldivers 2 stands out as one of the most notable titles of 2024. This cooperative shooter from Arrowhead takes the solid foundations of the first opus, while adding a touch of modernity. However, fans are already looking ahead to the future: a Helldivers 3 could it see the light of day?

There is no shortage of discussions on this subject, especially since Johan Pilestedt, creative director of Helldivers 2, responded to a humorous question on Twitter. A fan imagined a future Helldivers 3 with eight players and swimming phases. Pilestedt replied with humor: “We’re expanding Helldivers 2 into Helldivers 3…so, maybe you’re right. Except for swimming, of course. I doubt you can swim with heavy armor and a full arsenal. »

Helldivers 2, a game still in expansion

Despite the jokes, Pilestedt stressed that Helldivers 2 still has a long way to go. With the Iluminados, a new threat recently introduced, the game continues to evolve as a service. Since its launch in early 2024, several pieces of content have enriched the experience, and Arrowhead seems to have a multitude of ideas still in store.

Technical challenges

Among these ideas, the addition of a portable Gatling gun has sparked much debate. On Reddit, Pilestedt confided that this type of weapon posed problems: “You need a backpack magazine, but the game doesn’t yet support a weapon taking up two slots. This technical challenge must be resolved before making it available. » Once these obstacles are overcome, players may be able to get their hands on this fearsome weapon.

A united community

Arrowhead strives to maintain a close-knit community. Pilestedt also assured that new factions or gameplay additions will remain accessible for free: “We don’t want to divide the community. »

The future of Helldivers therefore remains open to all speculation. Whether with ambitious updates or a future Helldivers 3, one thing is certain: galactic democracy has not said its last word.
