Here we go again for a new literary year which promises to be abundant. But while waiting to discover the works that will mark these coming months, a little look back. What books were purchased the most during Christmas week (and were undoubtedly found under many Christmas trees)? Here are the top 5, according to the site Edistat, which establishes the top 200 best book sales every week over seven days.
“Tata” and “Houris” end the year in style
In fifth position, we find Tata, the latest novel by author Valérie Perrin. Published by Albin Michel in September 2024, it tells of the strange news that Agnès receives from the police: the death of her aunt, Colette, who was nevertheless buried… already three years ago. A book that has been a top seller since its publication and could one day be adapted for cinema, according to the novelist. In fourth place, we come across the Prix Goncourt 2024 Hourisby Kamel Daoud. Published by Gallimard and released in August 2024, it tells the fate of Aube, a young mute Algerian woman. A novel which, again, has sold very well since its arrival in bookstores.
The incredible success of “The Housekeeper”
The top 3 is made up of three books that marked the year 2024: the manga by videographer Inoxtag, Instincttakes third place for best book sales between December 23 and 29, 2024. The book published by Michel Lafon has been a real phenomenon since its release at the end of November. The first two places in this top 5 are occupied by the queen of the thriller of the year 2024, Freida McFadden. The American novelist to whom we owe the trilogy The cleaning ladyplaces two of the three novels in its saga at the top of bestsellers in France at the end of last year. Secrets of the housekeeper (volume 2, released by J'ai lu) occupies second place while volume 1 (from the same publisher) is placed on the first step of the podium. Note that the third volume of the saga, The cleaning lady sees everything, is not much further in the ranking since it is the 18th best-selling book during Christmas week. A real tide, a few months before the cinema release of the adaptation of the first volume, carried by Sidney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried.
