LThe former minister highlighted several crucial issues linked to the reform of the Family Code and recent demographic trends.
Ramid began by recognizing stability and wisdom in the management of public affairs. “It is our right, we Moroccans, to highlight the solidity of our institutions and the stability of our situation”, he wrote, praising the authorities’ method of approaching problems.
The post looks at the reform of the Family Code, applauding the application of the golden rule of “not making unlawful what is lawful, and not making lawful what is unlawful”, a maxim often repeated by the king in his speeches. According to Ramid, “the last word goes to the institutions”, and the word of the Council of Ulemas is supreme in legal matters.
On the subject of current demographic challenges, the former minister highlighted the general population census carried out in 2024, emphasizing the importance of examining this data. “Statistical data indicates a continued decline in the fertility rate… and could have serious consequences for the country's demographic future if this trend continues”, he noted.
He expressed particular concern about falling average household sizes and slowing population growth, criticizing the lack of widespread public discussion on these issues. “These Shocking Demographics Seem to Be Ignored”, added Ramid.
The former minister concluded by calling for in-depth reflection on the demographic future of Morocco. “If these proposals [de réforme du Code de la famille] can help slow down demographic decline, so much the better. However, if they risk reinforcing the population decline, it would not be wise to adopt them”, he advised, emphasizing the need for legislative solutions that take into account demographic implications.
Mustapha Ramid urges decision-makers to consider reforms by considering demographic issues as a priority, in order to guarantee a viable future for Morocco's future generations.
