After years of rustling, Lenovo's rollable laptop concept finally looks ready to launch. Here's everything you need to know.
There are many concept phones, laptops, and other devices, but most of them never see the light of day. This, however, is not the case with Lenovo's rollable screen laptop. This machine finally seems ready to be launched at CES 2025, after years of rumors. According to a new leak from Evan Blass, Lenovo's ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 (with rollable display) is almost ready for launch. CES 2025, next January, should be the scene of these expandable screen debuts.
This ThinkBook Plus packs a screen that extends vertically, transforming a fairly standard laptop into an imposing two-story computer. If you're tired of documents and websites that don't display in full screen, this laptop is for you. A leaked image shows a video call being comfortably made on the top half of the screen, while a PowerPoint presentation sits below.
Lenovo has been flirting with rollable technology for years now, teasing us with prototypes and crazy ideas. The concept device was shown in 2022, and Stuff's Tom Morgan-Freelander saw the rollable device at MWC 2023. But its future was questionable, to say the least. It's not exactly the same laptop as the concept, but it uses the same screen technology.
This isn't Lenovo's first rodeo when it comes to “weird but wonderful” laptops, either. Remember the Auto Twist from CES 2024? But it's the first one that seems to be on the verge of hitting the mass market.
And while the rollable screen concept isn't entirely new – we've seen it on TVs with prices that could fund a small wedding – this is the first time we've had it on a laptop. If Lenovo manages to succeed in this bet, it could really create a new trend. However, let's not forget that the fifth-generation ThinkBook Plus started at $2,000. So “affordable” isn't exactly Lenovo's middle name. While it's not confirmed, expect more details at CES 2025. One thing's for sure though: it's bound to make headlines.
