Google not only unveiled Gemini 2.0 Flash, the first model in the Gemini 2 family, but also announced the launch of Deep Research, an innovative feature that will simplify online research. Billed as “a personal search assistant,” Deep Research draws on Google’s expertise in finding relevant information on the Web.
It guides the navigation and research of the Gemini model, enhanced by advanced reasoning capabilities. With an expanded popup of 1 million tokens, it is capable of processing large amounts of data in one go.
How to use it?
To use Deep Research, Gemini Advanced subscribers can access this feature via the model selector drop-down menu by selecting the “1.5 Pro with Deep Research” option. Once activated, simply submit a request to the AI, which will generate a plan in several steps. The user then has the option to approve or modify it before starting the in-depth analysis.
Within minutes, Deep Research produces a detailed report, including links to original sources, providing a comprehensive overview of the research carried out. For example, for a student preparing a presentation on autonomous vehicle sensors, once the plan is approved, the tool takes care of analyzing the relevant information available on the web and generates an accurate and reliable report.
On this occasion, Google clarified that: “Over the course of a few minutes, Gemini continually refines its analysis, browsing the web as you do: searching, finding interesting information, then starting a new search based on what it finds. learned. It repeats this process several times and, when finished, generates a full report of the main findings, which you can export into a Google Doc.
Links to the sites explored offer users the opportunity to deepen their research by directly accessing the sources consulted. Currently, Deep Research is deployed in English on the Gemini Advanced platform for the web. However, Google plans to expand this feature by launching it on the mobile application in early 2025, allowing users to benefit from this innovation also on their mobile devices.
