Whatsapp: Meta unveils new improvements for calls as the holidays approach

A few days before the end of year holidays, WhatsApp, owned by Meta like Instagram and Facebook, has just received several improvements aimed at making communication even more intuitive and entertaining, whether on mobile or computer. With more than 2 billion calls made every day on the platform, and even more for Christmas and the New Year, these new features come at just the right time.

A touch of fun and personalization

One of the major improvements is the ability to precisely select group members for a call, instead of including everyone. This feature is ideal for organizing surprises or planning gifts without alerting all participants.

To add a fun aspect, WhatsApp is integrating ten new visual effects for video calls, such as the popular puppy ears, an underwater filter or even a karaoke microphone. Filters that are sure to make conversations more distracting, especially during festive times.

An optimized computer interface

Video calls now benefit from higher resolution, providing clearer images during chats, whether individual or in groups. On desktop, the WhatsApp Desktop interface has been redesigned with a new tab dedicated to calls, allowing quick access to main functions, such as launching calls or creating links for meetings.

A new tool in the testing phase

In the beta version of WhatsApp on Android, a new option simplifies replies to voice messages. A dedicated icon will soon allow you to respond directly by recording another voice message, without having to carry out several operations.

For iOS users, please note that WhatsApp now requires iOS 15.1 or later, which excludes some older devices, such as the iPhone 5s. Additionally, Meta recently introduced voicemail transcription, making audio notes easier for everyone to read.
