Founded in 2008 in Turin, the Camal Design studio working for Bertone, Giugiaro but also Totem Automobili has concocted this elegant project based on the Caterham Seven 485.
Italian design studio Camal has just presented a revisited Caterham project. Called Scoperta, this tray takes up the minimalist spirit of the Caterham Seven 485 serving as its basis with a more glamorous and more sophisticated spirit. From certain angles this vehicle makes a singular reference to the Jaguars… before the Type 00.
The praise of purity
The windshield replaced by a windscreen purifies the lines as do the overhead headrests and the absence of doors, at the expense of the ease of installation on board for the latter. You will have to be flexible to shoehorn yourself into the driver’s seat or that of your passenger, especially as the beltline remains relatively high and does not have an indentation as proposed, for example, by the atypical Morgan three wheeler.
Unless you have to open the very long hood, thereby lifting the dashboard to take your seat? Not very practical either.
A “Citroënisante” dashboard?
The spare wheel triple strapped to the bodywork also has its effect, as do the white wall tires. These latter coat very worked rims whose pattern would not be denied by an Alfa Romeo.
Surprisingly, the treatment of the dashboard evokes the Citroën universe in more than one way. Firstly, by the design of the single-spoke steering wheel for its white part. Secondly, by the linear graphics in the “scale” spirit of that of the brand’s double chevron sedans from the 1970s.
The fairly brief technical sheet indicates a 2.0 Ford Duratech four-cylinder engine delivering a power of 240 hp, a weight of 560 kg for a price of €150,000 excluding taxes.
