The myth surrounding the famous Switch 2 will soon be nothing more than ancient history. After almost eight years of good and loyal service, the first Nintendo Switch will be able to take a well-deserved rest. The Kyoto firm has promised us several times: the next console will be revealed before the end of the current fiscal year, scheduled for March 31. But while everyone thought they would discover the machine before 2025, the manufacturer strives to maintain secrecy. The more time passes, the more players become impatient and worried about a late launch next year, or even in 2026.
But the proliferation of leaks in recent days suggests that the new Switch has already started its production phase. A video published on the Chinese video platform Bilibili this Monday appears to present the console's new joy-cons. These match the 3D model shared by Digital Foundry last September, but there is no guarantee of the veracity of this design at this time. However, the attention of eager gamers is now turning to the production of accessories for the new console. Chinese manufacturers have started posting their products on the Alibaba platform and are providing new details regarding machine dimensions.
A console closer to its competitors
In terms of power and design, the Nintendo Switch 2 seems to be moving closer to the PC consoles that have recently dominated the market. Since Gamescom 2023, the rumors about the performance of the machine have been the stuff of dreams. Only the official announcement will confirm these rumors, but the design is no longer an open secret. Forum users Famiboards have discovered the first protective accessories dedicated to the Switch 2.
The comparison between a screen protector of the original console and the one that will succeed it suggests a much larger panel. Same observation with the transport bags whose dimensions leave little room for doubt. The current Switch measures approximately 24cm wide and 10cm high, but the Switch 2 cover measures 29cm wide and 13.5cm high. As a reminder, Valve's Steam Deck measures almost 30cm wide and 12cm high.
Digital Foundry experts claimed that the first design leaks were “most definitely real” and these accessories have the same measurements. But this information should be taken with a pinch of salt. There is no confirmation that the manufacturers are in possession of the real molds of the console, even if the mention has been spotted on certain products. These companies may have used the 3D models of the leaks to get a head start on production. Once again, patience is required before obtaining certainty, but the official announcement should not take (too) long.
