The web version of Microsoft’s Copilot now includes a new version of the Phone plugin, allowing it to directly access the content of the Android smartphone connected to your Windows 11 PC with Connected Mobile.

Viewing the content of your Android smartphone from your PC has been possible for a long time now, thanks to the Connected Mobile application. But it is now possible to manage your Android smartphone directly from Copilot Web, in Microsoft Edge. Microsoft has just deployed a new Phone plugin for its Copilot, giving the AI-powered assistant the power to access the content of your smartphone.

Copilot Web can search your contacts and read and send messages

This Phone plugin is not new, but it was previously limited to reading certain messages only, as reported by Windows Latest, which spotted the new version of this Copilot plugin. Now, Copilot’s Phone plugin lets you search for contact information, and read and send text messages using an Android smartphone, the accompanying description says.

Obviously, for the module to work, you will first need to have connected your Android smartphone to your PC via Connected Mobile. When this condition is met, you can directly ask Copilot to display the latest messages received on your smartphone or to give you the mobile number of one of your contacts. However, you will need to grant Copilot permission again to access the content of your device by reconnecting it to your PC, by scanning a QR Code. Without this, Copilot may tell you that there is a connection problem with your smartphone.

Once this formality is completed, you will be able to chat with Copilot as you usually do to ask it to interact with the content of your smartphone. You will then be able to order it to show you the list of the latest messages received, ask it for the phone number of a loved one, and even send a message to your correspondent in your place. For this specific case, you will still be asked to validate the content of the message by clicking on a button Yes, Proceed.

New abilities, but still some hiccups

Even better, you can even use Copilot to ask it to translate a message you received in another language. It would apparently even be possible to order it to program an alarm on your smartphone.

However, Copilot still seems to have some hiccups. During our test, Copilot confirmed that it had set an alarm on our smartphone when it hadn’t. This may be due to the fact that we’re using a Pixel smartphone whose integration with Windows is less deep than a Samsung device.
